Thanks to you guys and the Dell forums for letting everyone know the deal on this! I used a demo version of PowerQuest DeployCenter to make a drive mapping bootdisk which launches their software from the network, and it works fine using the same damn DOS driver as above.

If no network drivers are loaded, ghost. It seems some chipsets at HP compaq have this issue as well!
